In addition to a one and a half mile long boardwalk through the Sunken Forest, Sailors Haven also offers a visitor center, snack bar, picnic tables, lifeguarded beach (summer only), a 42-slip marina with electricity and coin pumpout, and bathhouse. Ranger-led interpretive activities are conducted daily throughout the summer months, on weekends in fall and spring, and by reservation for schools and other organized groups. Haven is home to one of the best known areas of Fire Island National Seashore:
The Sunken Forrest. It is located near the center of the island, across the
Great South Bay from Sayville. Visitor facilities are open from May
15-October 15.
